Abstract
The effects of bilateral cerebral ischemia on catecholamine concentrations in 5 brain regions (cerebral cortex, cerebellum, pons, hippocampus, and striatum) were examined in gerbil ischemic model. At 10 min after bilateral common carotid occlusion, a significant increase of norepinephrine was observed in the cerebral cortex, hippocampus and pons
whereas a significant decrease in the striatum and cerebellum was observed. At 10min after bilateral common carotid occlusion, the dopamine concentration was increased in the all brain regions, but serotonine was decreased. These results suggest that the catecholamine in various brain regions might have different vulnerabilities to ischemic insult and show no evidence of catecholamine role.
